Proverbs 19

“He who gets wisdom loves his own soul;  he who cherishes understanding propsers.  Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that perishes.  Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge” (Proverbs 19: 8, 21, 27).

Father, it is you who instructs me, it is you who guides me.  If I turn away from your instruction to me; in the end, it is me who is turning away from you.  It is only you Lord who knows my heart and its deepest yearnings.  It is you who prevail in my life.  Your purpose will be made known and made clear by your working in my life.  Remaining open to your instruction in my life will reveal understanding and allow me to grow in my realtionship with you.  Thank you Lord for being active in directing my life and showing your purpose.

Father, your harvest is beyond measure.  You are willing to be present and work in my life.  I pray that I may be open and willing to have you be present and work in my life.  I pray that any impediments to our relationship that may be present in my life may be removed so a strong and vibrant relationship may exist between us.

I pray that I may follow you with my whole heart, not with a half-hearted response.  I pray that my life may be lived in humility as I walk with you; not being filled with a self-centered pride for my own gain.

Thank you Lord Jesus for working in my life in ways that I cannot even fathom.

Luke 2

Father, today a Savior is born.  “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”  You have given me the light of my salvation, the glory of all Israel.  You have granted me true peace, the restoration of the good relationship between you and me; a relationship I do not deserve, but you have given me through your grace.

As Simeon said, “my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.”   You have provided the light of salvation to all peoples.  You are the glory of your people.

Luke 1

Father, your promise is fulfilled to your people.  Your mercy is extended to those who fear you.  You have performed mighty deeds through all times.  You have made the proud lowly.  You have lifted up the humble.  You have filled the hungry with good things and sent away the rich empty.  You are merciful to your servant.

Lord, you are a gracious and loving God.  Slow to anger and abounding in love.

I am your servant, may it be to me as you say.  I rejoice in you, O God.

Amos 9

Father, the Lord is your name.  Your Lord’s eyes are upon his sinful people.  Amidst all of this wrong-doing, your people long to return home.  Forgive my sin Lord.  Forgive my sin.

Through your Son, Jesus Christ, the throne of David is restored.  Through your revelation, all your people shall be called to return.  Your people will never be deported from the land again.
